HHV Exclusive: Chevy Woods talks “The 48 Hunnid Project,” offering first retail project, collaborations, and more

In 2010, Wiz Khalifa broke through and his Taylor Gang crew was right behind him. As soon as the masses learned about Wiz Khalifa, Chevy Woods was right there making his own name. It’s been close to four years since Chevy Woods became a familiar name with the hip hop world.

In this time, Chevy Woods has put out tons of dope music with many of the biggest names in hip hop. While putting in phenomenal work, Chevy Woods offered it all for free. Getting his money through shows and other work, Chevy Woods was not hurting for money.

However, Chevy Woods knows his value and The 48 Hunnid Project is his first retail offering for the masses. With the project coming on August 7, Chevy Woods talked to Hip Hop Vibe about his new release. He explained his journey from doing the mixtapes, building connections, and now delivering his first project for sale.

What is the inspiration behind your upcoming EP, The 48 Hunnid ProjectThe inspiration is my life. This is me rounding myself as an artist and now doing the shows, doing tours, putting together projects, and entertaining fans. Now is the time for me to do a project for commercial release. I took my time making this project, with artwork, videos, finding the right producers, and everything. We feel this is the best time to drop a project for people to purchase.

Yesterday, you released the trailer for the “All Said and Done” video with Dej Loaf. What is it like working with her? It was fun, she’s cool. The funny thing is, she is getting ready to go out on her first tour and she was asking me what it was like to go on tour for the first time. Since we emailed verses back to each other when creating the song, we met for the first time at the video shoot. Our collaboration came about through mutual friends, but it all came out dope, she is a cool artist and a cool person.

Your project also features such names as OG Maco, Wiz Khalifa, and Rico Love. Why did you include them on this new EP? I just felt like they were the right features. Artists that I am a fan of are big to me. I didn’t reach out to people who some may have thought I would have reached out to. I reached out to who influences me, like Rico Love, who I first met when Wiz recorded “On My Level” and I stayed in contact with him. So, I linked up with people I knew, on this project, everyone I dealt with I somewhat knew.

How will The 48 Hunnid Project separate itself from all of the previous Chevy Woods projects? Well, recording mixtapes, seeing how this is my commercial project, is the first difference. I did the mixtapes for a long time and just being able to sell something, now, after being in the streets so long and doing so much, it taught me on how to sell. The mixtapes is what I gave people for free, as a teaser, so when I got ready to sell, I paid attention to detail, standing behind engineers. This is my most-detailed project.
