HHV Exclusive: Rosa Acosta talks fitness modeling, business ventures, doing “NaNa” video with Trey Songz, and video vixen work

Rosa Acosta 2Almost ten years ago, Rosa Acosta emerged on the scene and became one of the hottest video vixens in the game. When she came in, the industry was changing and Rosa Acosta made changes. As the game shifted towards reality TV, Rosa Acosta jumped into the fitness world.

Always intrigued by fitness, due to her dancing background, Rosa Acosta has fit right in with the fitness world. While Rosa Acosta is right at home in this new field, there are times when her old world calls her back. This happened last year, when Trey Songz got her for “NaNa.”

Rosa Acosta recently talked to Hip Hop Vibe and she explained her journey to where she is now. Getting her start as a video vixen, Rosa Acosta rose to the top and since then she has used that background to help her expand. A strong and growing businesswoman, Rosa Acosta discussed some of the ventures she has in the works.

Read the entire interview below:

In recent years, you have shifted your focus to fitness, can you tell us about some of your business ventures regarding fitness? I have always been passionate about fitness and I was a dancer for eighteen years. I have always been around it, doing Yoga, Pilates, dance. Once I came to this country, I didn’t want to dance anymore, but I wanted to continue challenging myself, so I went to the gym and did Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, CrossFit, boxing.

The goal was to do something I loved and I love that. Now, I do Body by Rosa Acosta and I also have a line of supplements, RA Supplements and a couple of other things in the works, but I’m taking my time to make sure my work stands out. I also have a fitness blog I am doing, but I am changing this to FlexFitness.com, which will be a fitness blog that gives girls answers to what they want to know.

Before fitness, you did a lot of hip hop videos, what did you learn from your time being around the industry? That was just an opportunity I had to be seen. I met a lot of people, had fun, and got paid to do it. I feel as if I made the best of it and I appreciate the people I met, the money I made, and connections I acquired. I think many video vixens who got their name ended up leaving the industry and then acted as if “video vixens” is a bad word. It’s not unless you’re a bad girl, because being a video vixen led to opportunities I had now.

There weren’t many lessons, but it was a good experience, nobody taught me anything though (laughs). But, the things I knew then, I have always used, which has kept me in business over the years. I have made a living off something that is really hard to, many other girls have to do other things while doing. I feel the video vixen era is over and now it’s all about the reality TV stuff, but I’m now one of the last girls who was able to make it happen.

It was fun and I’m glad I was able to transition into other stuff and my followers transitioned with it. Sometimes people don’t want you to change, but my following wasn’t like that.

Last year, you were in the “NaNa” video by Trey Songz, how did you end up being in that video? Well, to be honest, I declined hat job, because I said I was not focusing on music videos. All the time, I get requests to continue doing videos, but I turn it down. But, I knew Trey for a long time and he called me directly and asked me to do it and I told him no. Then, he told me he’d have the girls in the video wearing my clothing. But, the girl who was going to wear my clothing cancelled last minute. So, he called me again and he asked me to do it, because he wanted me in it and it happened. Then, we had some of the biggest names in the fitness industry in it, so then I was like “why not?” They had me in the video with girls that I admire and it was fun, so I ended up doing it.

You’ve also worked as a host for such programs as “Comedy After Dark,” will you be involved in any future TV projects? Yes, absolutely. I am still doing that, but now I am hanging out with the comedians now. I guess, because I have an accent, everything I say is funny. But, I have also been with the “Wild ‘N Out” girls with Nick Cannon, making fun of him and the teams. It was super fun and I am also working on some other projects with Nick Cannon and NCredible, just some hosting projects, some Spanish, some English, but my Rosa twist on it. You might see me somewhere soon with them.

Can you tell us more about Cossamia, are you pleased with the success of your business so far? Oh my God, yeah! I am so happy. I have to thank all of the girls and all of the guys who buy stuff for their girls to support me. It’s weird everybody is doing the same thing. I started doing fitness in 2009 and then I was probably the only one doing fitness. I remember posting the pictures and getting weird comments criticizing me for having muscles and things, it was never the norm for video vixens and girls to not have muffin tops. I’m glad a lot of people jumped on the fitness thing, it’s good to have people motivated to be healthy and get fit. It’s good to have a lot of people doing it, but I have to be more careful of how I conduct my business, so I have to keep focusing on keeping my business cutting edge within the fitness industry and be different. That’s what we’re working on and I’m really happy that we’re doing good.
