In the 2012-2013 period, Young Thug began to gain momentum on the hip hop scene in Atlanta. Popular on the Atlanta hip hop scene, Young Thug soon joined forces with Gucci Mane. Signed to 1017 Brick Squad, initially, Young Thug’s Gucci Mane co-sign went a long way.

Young Thug enjoyed plenty of success during the 2013-2014 period. It happened while Gucci Mane was in prison, unfortunately, but there was someone who stepped in for him. Birdman took Young Thug under his wing and took him to the next level, making enemies with Lil Wayne.

Initially, Young Thug said he was naming his album Tha Carter VI to continue the series after Lil Wayne retired. But, in between time, Lil Wayne fell out with Birdman and Cash Money Records, leading to tension between him and Young Thug. Eventually, Young Thug had to change his album title and the project, Barter 6, dropped today, with Thugger receiving harsh reviews on Twitter.
