In 2004, Lil’ Flip was a bigger and more well-known artist than Kanye West, scary right? But, Lil’ Flip had a nice flow and he made some undeniable hits in the early 2000s. His peak came in 2004, with the release of U Gotta Feel Me, his third album.

Lil’ Flip came out strong in the summer and “Sunshine,” featuring Lea, became the anthem. There were several songs that owned the summer of 2004 and “Sunshine” was up there with them. The song is considered a hip hop classic, even if Lil’ Flip isn’t mentioned the way he once was.

Recent years have seen Lil’ Flip releasing more mixtapes and doing small clubs in the South. Here in North Carolina, Lil’ Flip even can be spotted at some of the drag strips with his own car to race. But, this week, we decided to reflect back to Lil’ Flip’s time on top of the game with “Sunshine,” featuring Lea, being this week’s Wednesday Throwback.
