A couple of years ago, Kendrick Lamar advanced from the Los Angeles underground hip hop scene to the mainstream. Co-signs from Snoop Dogg and Game led to Dr. Dre signing Kendrick Lamar. The deal with Dr. Dre led to Interscope Records coming for a TDE label deal.
Despite all the good things happening for the TDE label, Kendrick Lamar decided to take time off. In actuality, he never stopped working, but he was no longer the focal point. This hiatus is when Kendrick Lamar released To Pimp A Butterfly.
Kendrick Lamar surprised the game with an early release of To Pimp A Butterfly last month. Before this, Kendrick Lamar had the single, “i,” which was blowing up last summer. Now, the album is out and it has crossed 500,000 in sales.
