Jay Z attempted to make deal with Spotify before purchasing TIDAL and major three record labels have minority stakes

It takes a forward thinking person to do all that Jay-Z has done and to get the people around him to cooperate the way he has. Many would have settled for the position Jay-Z had in 1996. Furthermore, what he had in 2003 would seem like a distinct fantasy.

What many perceived as a “sky’s the limit” phrase is what Jay-Z laughed at, he goes hard. After launching Roc Nation Sports and successfully signing Kevin Durant, Jay-Z shifted his focus. He decided to invest $56 million in a streaming service called Aspiro.

Aspiro is the parent company of TIDAL, the music streaming service, which went live this week. Many of the biggest names in music, including Beyonce, Kanye West, J. Cole, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Madonna are part-owners in it. Now, all three major labels also have minority stakes in the company, but Jay-Z originally pitched this concept to Spotify.
