DJ YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Snoop Dogg ft. Nate Dogg, Butch Cassidy, Tha Eastsidaz, and Master P – “Lay Low”

In 2000, Snoop Dogg released Tha Last Meal, which was his final album release under Master P’s No Limit Records. Back in 1996, it was Master P who helped Snoop Dogg get released from his contract with Death Row Records. But, his time on No Limit saw Snoop Dogg work without Dr. Dre.

This all changed in 2000, when Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre came together for three songs. Two of these songs were singles off Tha Last Meal, the other, “Still D.R.E.,” was on Dr. Dre’s 2001. The second Snoop Dogg single with Dr. Dre was “Lay Low,” which featured Nate Dogg and Master P.

“Lay Low” dropped late in 2000 and became one of 2001’s first hip hop hit singles. Also featuring Butch Cassidy and Tha Eastsidaz, “Lay Low” featured a 1920s mafia-inspired music video and hardcore lyrics played on a classic Dr. Dre beat. A top 50 Billboard hit and top ten on the R&B charts, “Lay Low” is this week’s Wednesday Throwback.
