During the mid-1990s, Missy Elliott emerged as one of the biggest names in hip hop. Her run continued into the mid-2000s, when Missy Elliott went on an indefinite hiatus. In 2005, she released her last album, The Cookbook, which boasts the single, “Lose Control,” featuring Ciara.

Unfortunately, Missy Elliott took her break from the industry right before the social media explosion. The Virginia native, however, has attempted a few comebacks and worked with newer artists. But, she seemed to prefer life outside of the spotlight.

Last night, however, Missy Elliott returned to the spotlight in the biggest way possible. With rumors of a new album in the works, Missy Elliott performed alongside Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz at the Super Bowl. Hours after her scene-stealing performance, Missy Elliott has seen a 1,396% increase in her popularity on Spotify, with her songs all over the charts and she’s all over the top 200 and top 8.
