A turning point in hip hop took place when Run-DMC first hit the scene. There are some who think Run-DMC was the first act signed to Def Jam, but this is not the case. Instead, they were signed to Profile Records, before releasing their final album on Arista. But, with their manager being Russell Simmons, they were involved in Def Jam’s birth.
Twelve years ago, Jam Master Jay tragically died and Erick Sermon paid homage to him in his interview with Hip Hop Vibe at the Global Spin Awards. This, effectively, ended Run-DMC as the world knew it. But, Rev Run has had plenty of success in reality television from 2005 up until 2009.
Rev Run recently invited Hot 97’s DJ Enuff to his home and they had an in-depth hip hop conversation. In this interview, Rev Run speaks on how Run-DMC got their start. He also speaks on the early days of Def Jam, which center around the introduction of both LL Cool J and the Beastie Boys.
