Review: J.R. Donato – “North Pole”

North PoleBy Tierra Anderson
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Taylor Gang’s newest artist, J.R. Donato, has just dropped his new mixtape North Pole. Donato hails from Waukegan, IL, and he is determined to represent his city to the fullest. J.R. Donato was introduced to the rap game at the age of thirteen, through hid father who owned an independent record label.

Though his father’s mentorship, the Illinois native began to take writing and producing serious. The recent SXSW performer got his big break on an epic collaboration with Taylor Gang’s head honcho, Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J and Problem on “I’m Feenin,” featured on Cabin Fever 2. North Pole is a fifteen-track compilation featuring some of music’s hottest artists.

Appearances come from figures such as Ab-Soul, Wiz Khalifa, Smoke DZA and Chevy Woods. This mixtape is laced with chill and relaxed tracks that anyone can listen to. North Pole has a laid back feel that is noticeable in many of Taylor Gang’s artists such as Wiz Khalifa and Chevy Woods and also, intricate lyrics such as ones that resemble Ab-Soul. His music may remind music listeners of Curren$y, whom we all know can set the mood with his flow and mellow verses.

With the release of North Pole, J.R. Donato is making his own way in hip hop and all music lovers should look out for what is yet to come from him.

Hip Hop Vibe’s Rating: 7/10
