Initially used for rappers to body beats used by other artists, or for an established artist to release album leftovers, mixtapes have evolved. Over the past decade, mixtapes have become just as high of quality as albums. These avenues created through mixtapes have helped to create an outlet for guys like Gillie Da Kid to have success.
Gillie Da Kid is a native of Philadelphia and he had ties to Cash Money Records. Many credit Gillie Da Kid for the blitz Lil Wayne went on from 2006 through 2008, with his mixtape success and new rhyme scheme. He and Lil Wayne even beefed over this, for quite a while.
Since the Cash Money departure, Gillie Da Kid cemented his status as a popular hip hop figure through mixtapes. But, Gillie Da Kid has made a presence in the game for a long time and now he wants something more official. This morning, Gillie Da Kid took to Instagram to reveal he has an album coming soon.
