Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Recent years have seen a rise in hip hop scenes all over the place, as the internet has gained prominence. This has led to rappers from places such as Alabama rising to a strong position in the game. Among the internet-era Alabama rappers making moves is Mike Hitz, who has viral success with his single, “Limit,” which dropped earlier this summer.

Mike Hitz also has his Pregame mixtape, hosted by DJ Dirty Vegas, which is out now and he is pushing it. The mixtape is currently Mike Hitz’ main focus, as he is trying to get visuals out for some of the record. Currently, “Limit” is the main single he is pushing, as the music video for it is out now.

Hip Hop Vibe recently had the chance to talk to Mike Hitz and he spoke on everything it takes for an artist, such as himself to make it. What many fail to realize is that every journey is different, custom made for the person traveling. But, Mike Hitz spoke on what his take on Alabama’s hip hop scene is, the “Limit” single, and the Pregame mixtape.

Read the entire interview below:

As a native of Alabama, how do you feel about the success Yelawolf has had over the past five years? I respect Yelawolf as an artist, but I haven’t kept up with his music in the past few years.

With every emerging artists from an area, they bring their own sound that relates to their area, what type of sound are you bringing from Alabama to the world? My style is unique. I wouldn’t classify my sound as an “Alabama” sound, because I feel my music is in its own lane. I make a high energy, Southern, party style of music, which is made for people who like to have a good time.

Can you talk a little bit about your Pregame mixtape, hosted by DJ Dirty Vegas? Pregame is a mixtape that was put together over a year, which consist of fourteen orginial tracks. BeatsxKD produced the entire mixtape, and there are two features, Ayoo Meco and Ronnie West. Each track is different from the other, so you have to listen to the whole mixtape to find your favorite. “Thrill,” track six, is a smooth, seductive type song while “Get Rich,” track eight, is the complete opposite.

Recently, you released the “Limit” music video, can you explain how this single came together? Me and my producer, BeatsxKD, always discussed creating a song that had a mixture of hardcore rock/rap with heavy base. KD made the beat, and I went in. “Limit” was made.

Many rising artists have seen success with artists jumping on their viral single, given the sound of “Limit,” what artist could you see jumping on the record if that were to happen? Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J, hands down. Their style of music and rap flow would fit the song perfectly.

With the fall right around the corner and the year coming to a close, are you planning on dropping a retail project, such as an EP? My main focus, as of right now, is pushing out my Pregame mixtape and doing shows. I’m also spending a lot of time piecing together visuals for my mixtape. The new music will come in due time.

Most people come into each year with set goals in place, do you feel as if you have reached most, if not all, of your 2014 goals? I’ve accomplished a lot this year, but all of my goals have not been reached. Each day I set new goals, so my goals are ongoing.
