During the late 1990s, Def Jam returned to prominence behind the success of the additions of Jay-Z, DMX, and Ja Rule. The success of Roc-A-Fella Records and Murder Inc. introduced a new sound and new artists to the game. Under Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam, there was Memphis Bleek, Jay-Z’s right-hand man.
Memphis Bleek is one of those rare artists where a lot was placed on him, in terms of expectations. This is something he discussed in a recent interview, saying he could never live up to those standards. But, Memphis Bleek did make hits and he is still one of the top emcees to ever pick up a mic.
Within New York City, Memphis Bleek continues to be a force on the scene and he is headlining The 5th Annual Summer Cool Down Fashion Show & Concert on September 21. The event is being put together by Drop On Top Ent. and other performances include Malachi Grant. Music is provided by DJ Mel-O.D.
