DJ YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Coolio ft. L.V. – “Gangsta’s Paradise”

While Coolio made his debut in 1994, during the height of Los Angeles’ reign on the rap game, 1995 was his breakout year. He followed It Takes A Thief with Gangsta’s Paradise, which included the title single. This single has gone on to become a classic, almost twenty years after it was recorded.

Hip Hop Vibe’s own, DJ Kelly J talked to Coolio about the Gangsta’s Paradise single and album. Coolio explained how much things have changed for both him and the culture since 1995. When people think of old school hip hop tracks, a lot of times, they overlook this classic.

The “Gangsta’s Paradise” single was also included on the Dangerous Minds soundtrack and the music video featured Michelle Pfeiffer. She played her Dangerous Minds role in the video for the single. This week, in light of our Coolio inerview and looking back, we decided to feature Coolio and L.V.’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” for the Wednesday Throwback.
