Recent years, the Miami hip hop scene has gotten credit because of the efforts from the likes of DJ Khaled and Rick Ross. Their work should not be overlooked, but they aren’t the originators. Contrary to popular belief, Trick Daddy isn’t the originator, either, in fact, he got a big assist from Uncle Luke and the 2 Live Crew.
The 2 Live Crew broke through in the late 1980s and released their third studio album, As Nasty As They Wanna Be. This album, along with 2 Live Crew’s other albums, is a reason explicit albums come with the warning sticker. A signature single off As Nasty As They Wanna Be is “Me So Horny.”
“Me So Horny” ushered in a new era in hip hop and it put Miami and the 2 Live Crew on the map. Each week, Hip Hop Vibe and myself have an obligation to take it back and it has to be done right. Miami is a major hip hop city and it’s only right to revisit their hip hop roots this week.
