Like him or not, you have to admit that Gillie Da Kid is highly respected in the city of Philadelphia. I had the opportunity to attend his recent show here at the TLA in Philly, as he was one of the main acts in the lineup for Nipsey Hussle’s recent stop. Gillie is someone with charisma and has that thing when it comes to his personality, an image that is just natural and something you can’t buy.

Ready to perform, Gillie seemed excited ready to rock the stage in his hometown. Where a good performance is a main attribute of a successful artist, that is something Gillie Da Kid has. Gillie started off performing some of his regional hits that the Philly crowd loves.

One of the main records is “Get Down on The Ground” that got the crowd hype as soon as it came on. Gillie when any big artist comes to town, it not a surprise to see him in the lineup to do this thing, as Gillie is someone that is on his grind and has his hands in a lot of things. During his set, he took the time to spit a freestyle on the fakeness that goes down in the industry and the crowd seem to enjoy it. It has always been said that Gillie has never been a industry sucker doing whatever to get to the top and is happy where he’s at. I personally liked the freestyle as it showed how you can make a good living off being an independent artist and the lines where he bashed the current 360 deals was quite interesting.

One of my favorite songs of the night was “Tryna Get Me One” his street banger with Pusha T. Hearing this song live with a large crowd is fire and it was good to see fans sing the hook as the song went on. I bet it would’ve been even crazier it be brought out Pusha T only if he happen to be in time but maybe next time haha. Towards the end of the set, as Gillie wrapped things, he gave some words of encouragement. At end of the day he is a dude with positive energy and gave a big shout out to all the artist who want to make and showed much love to Philly artist on the rise as well.
