Heading into the Grammys, most believed Macklemore and Ryan Lewis would win the Best Rap Album award. This comes in spite of Kendrick Lamar having one of the most-revered albums with good kid, m.A.A.d. city. His album was released during the late stages of 2012 and thus nominated for a Grammy.
Kendrick Lamar has been compared to Nas by a lot of insiders in the industry. What comes along with a comparison like that is being overlooked for such awards as a Grammy. Back in the day, Jay-Z boycotted the Grammys because DMX didn’t get a nomination and his boycott came despite his win.
But, in the case of Macklemore and Kendrick Lamar, the Seattle emcee immediately text the Compton spitter. Regardless of what happened, they are artists, friends, and music lovers. Macklemore immediately sent a text to Kendrick Lamar saying he robbed him of the Grammy and he posted the exchange to Instagram.
