What Jay-Z brought to the game as a rapper, not many people expected. But, when it came, it came and hip hop has been looking for the heir apparent. In many ways, the entire Roc-A-Fella Records was the Chicago Bulls from 1990-1998. NBA fans know this was when Michael Jordan owned the game and won titles.
But, 1996-2003 was when Jay-Z originally owned the rap game and was a top five rapper every year. Towards the later years, Jay-Z became the clearcut leading rapper in the game and Dame Dash helped him achieve this feat. Rapping was something Jay-Z was good at, but business was his passion and it prevailed.
Every now and then, fans can be treated to a new Jay-Z album, but they know to no longer expect a new album every year. The good thing about that is that it makes room for newer artists to live up to it. According to a recent article, DJ YRS Jerzy and Chox-Mak are the next artists to make a run similar to this and they definitely have laid the groundwork for bigger greatness.
