Fabolous defends New York hip hop, responding to Kendrick Lamar and Trinidad James on “The Get Back”

Fabolous 5Hip hop fans have been down on Fabolous because he has spent more of his time vacationing in Miami than working on music. Four years have passed since he dropped a new album, but he has kept it hot with the mixtapes. When Kendrick Lamar did “Control,” people looked for Fabolous’ response.

Fabolous received a lot of flack when his response never came and it was reported that Interscope Records blocked it. Fans never bought the excuse and Fabolous fell even deeper into the “dog house.” But, Fabolous won many fans back over with the new edition of The S.O.U.L. Tape.

Several times, Fabolous has said he wants to fill the void left by Jay-Z and others and become the king of New York. Despite this, he let Kendrick Lamar get away and wasn’t even mentioned when Trinidad James began taking hit shots. When no one was looking, Fabolous took shots at both of them on The S.O.U.L. Tape 3 on the track, “The Get Back,” showing the work of a true don.
