Since Game, Nipsey Hussle, and Dom Kennedy are all hot right now, it was the perfect time to bring the Wednesday Throwback back to Los Angeles. A lot of people, for very good reasons, credit Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and NWA for putting LA hip hop on the map. But, Ice-T originally brought light to the city.

Los Angeles was a gangland long before hip hop music rose to the forefront. Gang members from the Bloods and Crips were killing each other and a film called Colors was made to document this lifestyle. Ice-T dropped the title track to the soundtrack and it spotlighted the Los Angeles scene and it became a classic.

“Colors” was Ice-T’s original claim to fame, even though he released three albums prior to this. So, with everybody looking at the Los Angeles scene, it was only right to look at one of the songs that helped put the city on the map. Check out “Colors” by Ice-T, as it is this week’s Wednesday Throwback.
