Until 2006, T.I. received a lot of credit for his work as a solo artist, but his shortcomings as a leader were brought up. With the exception of the P$C album, T.I. devoted little focus on the development of Grand Hustle Records. All of this changed when T.I. put Young Dro in the spotlight in 2006.
“Shoulder Lean” hit during the summer of 2006 and it was followed by his debut album, Best Thang Smokin’. The album was a strong debut from Young Dro and his run continued when T.I. included him on the “Top Back” remix. Since then, there has not been much else from Young Dro.
Young Dro has remained a figure on the mixtape scene in the seven years since his album dropped. T.I. made the move to establish Grand Hustle Records as an independent label. Now, Young Dro is preparing his sophomore album and the official album cover dropped today.
