J. Cole recounts Sha Money XL trying to get 50 Cent to sign him with VIBE

Recently, J. Cole collaborated with 50 Cent on his “New York Times” track, which has had viral success. Earlier this summer, J. Cole released his sophomore album and he is gold off of it. J. Cole is back in the spotlight and a lot of attention is being thrown his way.

Venturing from North Carolina to New York City, J. Cole had plans of breaking into the rap game and being a star. After several attempts to catch the attention of Jay-Z and he ended up being Roc Nation’s first signed artist. Following a two year wait, J. Cole finally released his first album.

When he talked to VIBE today, J. Cole explained that if Sha Money XL had his way, his label home would not have been Roc Nation. According to J. Cole, Sha Money XL reached out to 50 Cent about signing J. Cole. What stopped the deal was 50 Cent not being too fond of J. Cole’s sound.
