Even though a lot of Nicki Minaj’s style is said to be from Lil’ Kim, Trina also was one of the sexiest rappers ever. There is a lot of Trina in Nicki Minaj’s style and there is a mutual respect. Still, a lot of people thought the respect went overboard when Trina did her tribute to Nicki Minaj at the 2013 BMI Awards.
Trina received flack because she has been in the game for close to twenty years, compared to Nicki Minaj who has put in less than ten years. Regardless, it was the entire label of Cash Money Records being honored. Many people online have had trouble understanding this fact.
When Karen Civil talked to Trina, she opened up about why she did the tribute, saying it was not about her, it was the tribute. Trina also spoke about the death of her brother, who passed back in April. In the interview, Trina talked about French Montana, those rumors, and her next album.
