The Last Don: Ransom’s Top Mixtape Anthems

Ransom 4A lot of he said, she said is going on with Ransom right now over the Nicki Minaj stuff that’s going on. As someone who is from Jersey City and grew up watching Ransom, a lot of the stuff people are saying about him on Twitter is unfair. Ransom might not have the success Nicki Minaj has, but he held Jersey City down for over ten years.

If the mainstream world has learned anything, they should know Ransom isn’t the type to back down from anybody. When he felt his pride being threatened, Ransom fearlessly went after Joe Budden and exchanged disses from 2007-2009. Ransom, in a lot of situations, has been there and done that.

Back in the day, Ransom had a deal with Def Jam and he appeared on all of DJ Clue’s mixtapes. In the end, he decided to stay independent and it’s worked for him. Back in 2008, he dropped his street album, Street Cinema, which most regard as a hood classic, so Ransom deserves props.

Ransom is the hip hop artist who has done things a lot of people would wish to. Without even focusing on the bullshit that is this exchange with Nicki Minaj over ghostwriting, when he really said “we used to lay down tracks together,” today’s focus is just on Ransom and who he is. With just the support of his city, Ransom has turned himself into a legend, something a lot of artists who have had tons of mainstream success will never be called.

With The Alternative with Big Mike being Ransom’s last mixtape, he has dropped so many over the past few years alone. Other popular titles under his belt include Winter’s Coming from last summer, The Last Don from earlier this year, the Pain & Glory series, The Best in the City series, and many more. Ransom laid down some of the records Jersey City and the whole Tri-State Area rock with and support and, with the proper spotlight, the rest of the world could come to appreciate them to.

Every music video Ransom drops ends up going viral on YouTube, so as a Jersey City native, with personal pride via Hip Hop Vibe, they are presented to the world.

Watch some of Ransom’s music videos below:

Ransom – “Game of Thrones”

“Game of Thrones” was one of the singles off last summer’s Winter’s Coming, that DJ Drama hosted. The Come Up DVD shot the visual.

Ransom – “A-Team Tri-State Freestyle

It was his A-Team days that first made Ransom a local celebrity. Back in the day, they put on for the whole Tri-State. One of their most-classic records was their “Tri-State Freestyle.”

Ransom – “Pain”

For Ransom, it all started out with his record, “Pain.” This was right when people started really using the internet to push music. “Pain” was dropped and it also was shot by The Come Up DVD.

Ransom breaks down his beef with Joe Budden

If anybody wondered why Ransom is a legend, just watch this interview. Nobody but Ransom would say something like this on film. In this interview, Ransom talked about wanting to have sex with Rihanna and Roxy Reynolds, and he of course went in on Joe Budden. This was at the height of their beef and he also talked about Tahiry Jose.

Stack Bundles and Ransom – “The Problem” (freestyle)”

Shout out to the Riot Squad, rest in peace to the homie Stack Bundles. Before his untimely death, Stack Bundles also was getting it in with Ransom. They had a bunch of songs together and this includes their legendary freestyle, “The Problem.”

There’s a lot more Ransom that could be posted, it would literally take days. But, when it comes down to it, Ransom is a guy people would call “your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper.” He has mixtapes with all the biggest DJs, including DJ Clue, DJ Drama, and Big Mike.
