At first, a lot of people weren’t too sure about J. Cole coming back two years after his debut album. Sure he did it the first time around, but how would he fare as a sophomore in the game? J. Cole showed it wasn’t all that hard, he got back to basics and Miguel sang on his “Power Trip” single.
By listening to the instrumental, nobody would guess “Power Trip” is a love song until the lyrics are heard. Using one of the most-powerful beats in a long time, J. Cole got his point across. The theme of the music video also led to some hilarious memes (check out this one).
Either way, it led to more success for J. Cole, as he continues to lead the way for a talented North Carolina hip hop scene. “Power Trip” is the record that continues to drive the Born Sinner album to success. Until Jay-Z recently dethroned him, J. Cole had the number one album in the country, but he now has a platinum single to fall back on with “Power Trip.”
