First off, Kanye West is a musical genius and Yeezus is one of the best musical bodies of work to come in a very long time. Yeezus had very high projections and it has reminded the world that projections are just that, expectations. As everyone well enough knows, expectations do not always come to fruition.
Yeezus was projected to ship 500,000 copies in its first week and sail to platinum status, but it has been a slow crawl. Kanye West narrowly won the first week sales battle, but the war is being won by J. Cole, who is expected to top the charts next week. On the other hand, Kanye West’s sales are in freefall.
In the second week of sales, Kanye West suffered an 80% drop, the worst since 1991 and the fourth-worst of all time. Definitely a tough hit for Kanye West, as he finishes his second week behind Wale and J. Cole. The decline of Kanye West’s album sales were expected, but the heights to which it fell came as a total and complete shock.
