Talib Kweli performs “Get By” and explains the song pattern with “Sway in the Morning” [VIDEO]

Those who are not familiar with Talib Kweli’s work with Mos Def as Black Star probably know him best for his 2003 single, “Get By.” By no means a commercial rapper, Talib Kweli crossed over into the mainstream market with this single. “Get By” became one of the many anthems during the summer of 2003.

Despite 2003 being the height of New York’s hardcore rap, Talib Kweli had everyone reciting the socially-conscious lyrics of “Get By.” With production coming from future hip hop leader, Kanye West, “Get By” was the prelude to so much more. Ten years since the release of his single, Talib Kweli still is requested to perform this song.

Sway Calloway recently sat down with Talib Kweli and he performed his “Get By” single that remains his claim to fame. After the performance, Talib Kweli talked about the conception of the song. Coming as a surprise to most, Talib Kweli revealed the song’s pattern was identical to Nas’ “Ether.”
