Ironically, the most-discussed player in the NBA is one whose team got eliminated from the playoffs. Jason Collins has never been a superstar by any means, but he has played for several teams and has been to the NBA Finals. But, Jason Collins is not in the headlines because of his play.
Last week, Jason Collins took over headlines when he revealed himself to be the first openly gay professional athlete. Dating women until 2009, Jason Collins has remained in the closet until last week. The hip hop media has been all over the story, unfortunately turning it into more of a joke than an actual story.
Lil Wayne recently sat down with MTV News and he spoke on the NBA playoffs. In spite of his personal feelings, Lil Wayne said he believes the Miami Heat cannot be stopped, but the San Antonio Spurs could possibly compete. When asked about Jason Collins, Lil Wayne defended him and he told him to “be you.”
