Times have definitely changed since DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince (Will Smith) entered the game. They were twenty year veterans when Drake began his run, which led to his Young Money deal. Best-known as an actor, Drake began releasing mixtapes and soon working with Lil Wayne.
Drake built several fans during his mixtape run, including DJ Jazzy Jeff. His independence was admired, but he signed to Cash Money Records. It was the first of many deals for the label, which also added Nicki Minaj, Busta Rhymes, Bow Wow, DJ Khaled and his We the Best Music Group, consisting of Ace Hood and Mavado.
Being a part of a growing conglomerate may work for Drake, but DJ Jazzy Jeff would have done things differently. Of course, Drake is one of the biggest rappers in the game, but he had that advantage long before Young Money/Cash Money. DJ Jazzy Jeff spoke on Drake and much more with Vlad TV.
