Four years ago, Kid Cudi was one of the biggest breakout artists in the game. During this period of time, G.O.O.D. Music did not receive much attention. Well-known was the fact that Kanye West ran the label, but the roster was overlooked, at the time. It would be two years before G.O.O.D. Music received any mainstream attention.

The year of 2011 was a big year for Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha T, and 2 Chainz, an affiliate of the record label. Seeing their success, Kanye West decided to do a group album, Cruel Summer, but one voice took a noticeable backseat. Kid Cudi only appeared on one song off the album, meanwhile a bigger role was played by 2 Chainz.

During the second part of his interview with Power 106’s L.A. Leakers, Kid Cudi spoke more in-depth about the situation. Kid Cudi said he felt the sound of Cruel Summer did not go with his sound, which is why he played a minor part. Though contractual obligations make his label departure difficult, Kid Cudi’s deal was with Kanye West and he supports his move.
