What a week is has been in hip hop with so much going down. Ray J took shots at Kanye West with “I Hit it First” to Harvard Street’s upcoming mixtape. The game definitely had its fair share of drama this past week. But, with the drama, comes the entertainment and there was plenty to go around.
Doing the “Top Five Songs of the Week” is never a chore, as it has been an enjoyable task listening to all of the new music. It is always good to hear the top artists sounding their best, alongside the independent artists rising up. With so much content, sometimes it would be easier to choose more than five.
But, this segment is called “Top Five Songs of the Week,” which have played on the “In the Mix” radio show. While this is the countdown on the “Top Five Songs of the Week,” every Wednesday, fans can catch the regular “In the Mix” radio show on DJ Clue’s Desert Storm Radio.

I hit, I hit, I hit, I hit, I hit it first rings out loud and clear as Ray proceeds to reportedly let Kanye know exactly where his baby mama was first. Will there be a response? Only time will tell, but ‘Ye is outspoken at the best of times. Watch this space!
Harvard Street – “Black Ice”
I’ve been blown away by Michigan’s next shining star Harvard Street and Black Ice hasn’t changed my opinion, Hizzo is the future! Make sure to stay locked for his mixtape CDs And Cassette Tapes dropping 4.8.2013.
Yasiin Bey – “The Light is Not Afraid of the Dark”
This is the second week running I’ve had a place for Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) in my top 5 tracks of the week. “The Light Is Not Afraid Of The Dark” is produced by Kanye check out the CDQ of an unreleased track presumably recording during his Tru3 Magic session.
Big Sean ft. Common – “Switch Up”
G.O.O.D. has become great with heavy hitters like Pusha T, 2 Chainz, and Ye on the roster some would think it would be easy to get blinded by the lights but not Big Sean and Common who have doused fire on the game and continue to with this joint “Switch Up.”
Paigey Cake ft. Princess Nyah – “Hood Swag”
Now when I talk females taking over in the UK and worldwide I gotta mention Ms. Paigey Cakes not only a dope Emcee she’s also a very talented actress! This one is taken from her latest mixtape and features Princess Nyah. Download your free copy of The First Paige mixtape here.
