After a four year hiatus, the MTV Video Music Awards have returned to New York City, but Radio City Music Hall will not be the venue. Brooklyn has made major strides over the past year to become the new focus of New York City. With two NBA teams, once again, the Brooklyn Nets have twice beaten the New York Knicks.
When the Video Music Awards last took place in New York City, Kanye West’s infamous “moment” took place. In the time since then, Jay-Z has made moves toward advancing his hometown of Brooklyn. With a large role in the Nets, Jay-Z was the force behind the popular Barclays Center, the home of the Nets.
MTV has returned to its music roots in recent months. Now, MTV has returned to the streets of New York City. In Brooklyn, MTV will hold the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards and it will take place at the Barclays Center. Though Jay-Z may not be nominated for an award this year, he will be providing a venue.
