Hip Hop’s Top Vacation Spots: Anguilla

AnguillaBy Hardcore Critic
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Criticism of hip hop typically comes because the lifestyle does become redundant. Once one rapper jumps on a track, every rapper jumps on the track, and the same goes for cars and vacation spots. There was once a time when Miami was exclusive and rappers boasted of being there, but now it is more of a weekend playground.

Back in 2007, Jay-Z and Beyonce went on vacation, but it was not in South Beach nor was it in St. Tropez. Instead, Jay-Z and Beyonce headed to Anguilla, which is located in the Caribbean and is a British territory. In the time since then, Anguilla has become a popular vacation destination.

Last fall, Rick Ross, Wale, and Drake went down to Anguilla. Rick Ross crafted the anthem, “Diced Pineapples,” and felt Anguilla was the perfect place to display his vision of the song. During this same period of time, the cast of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” vacationed in Anguilla.

One reason the island of Anguilla has become a top destination for vacationers is because of the countless activities that are available on the island. Along with the friendly people, there are plenty of beaches, resorts, and restaurants available for those who come and soak the place in. All of the elite in hip hop spend time in Anguilla, with several photos of Jay-Z and Beyonce getting cozy there, Rick Ross filming “Diced Pineapples” in Anguilla, along with Diddy being spotted on the island. Versace is one of the most-rapped about products in hip hop and the creator, Donatella Versace often vacations in Anguilla.

Jay-Z and Beyonce in Anguilla

Anguilla Jay-ZThose who listened to Kingdom Come are well aware that Jay-Z has several homes around the world. One of the most-private men in the public eye, Jay-Z built a life with Beyonce and he has not looked back. But, when he sees the hip hop game he changed so dramatically, Jay-Z reminds them he has already done what they boast about. Of course, there is beauty in such places as Miami, they are regular. Anguilla is not a place street kids from Brooklyn simply go to with R&B starlets. Often, the paps catch Jay-Z and Beyonce vacationing in Anguilla, while trying to avoid the public.

Rick Ross in Anguilla shooting the “Diced Pineapples” music video

Anguilla Rick RossRick Ross, in many ways, has inherited the position Jay-Z once held in the game. Though their styles are completely different, Rick Ross is the heir apparent to the finer things in life. Every year since 2011, Ross has released a new album. Following up his 2011 Maybach Music compilation, Rick Ross returned with his God Forgives, I Don’t Album. In spite of the strong title, Rick Ross included many laid back songs, including “Diced Pineapples,” featuring Wale and Drake. For the music video, Rick Ross and company headed down to Anguilla and shot one of 2012’s sexiest music videos. A track inspired by Rick Ross’ new health-oriented diet, Ross turned it into a hip hop treat.
