Exotic Cars Loved by Hip Hop: Aston Martin

Popularized by Rick Ross in 2010, the car originally made famous through the James Bond films has been a fixture in hip hop for some time. A decade ago, hip hop began a slow evolution. Mercedes-Benz and BMW dominated the rap game and they are still high-class cars, but they lost their exclusivity to the likes of Aston Martin.

Ten years ago, Jay-Z famously boasted an Aston Martin in the “’03 Bonnie & Clyde” music video with Beyonce. Several rappers own Aston Martins and Rick Ross returned a major spotlight to the brand with his Drake and Chrisette Michele-assisted late summer hit, “Aston Martin Music.” Many others have also been hands-on with the brand.

During the same time Rick Ross’ “Aston Martin Music” had become a major radio hit, the car company began working with Swizz Beatz. Known as a popular producer and record executive, Swizz Beatz is a businessman first and he has hands in several pots. The hip hop executive designed a few Aston Martin coupes.

Hip hop’s obsession with Aston Martin is one of the few love affairs that actually have been requited, seeing how Swizz Beatz worked with the car line. At the same time, Aston Martins have been a go-to punchline in raps, too. Nas spoke on the commercialism of the game and mentioned Aston Martin on his controversial album, Untitled. The boastful figures in the rap game also have used Aston Martins to display their extravagant lifestyles.

A few years ago, Birdman provided his Cash Money Records roster with gifts. Every year, Birdman offers gifts to his crew early in the year. During one of these major showings, Birdman gifted Lil Wayne with his Aston Martin. Though the Aston Martin is credited more toward Rick Ross, Jay-Z was one of the originators of Aston Martin in hip hop and Swizz Beatz was among the first hip hop members to actually make money with the company.
