Yesterday, the world celebrated the life of The Notorious B.I.G. Hopefully, many internet users checked out Hip Hop Vibe’s Songs and Videos Inspired by The Notorious B.I.G., there was a lot of notable material there. Sixteen years have passed since B.I.G. died and hip hop is still in mourning.

Each week, for the past four weeks, this column has existed to show the top songs featured on “In the Mix.” This past week, there were many great songs from the hottest emcees in the game, but all of this was on the backburner. Instead, The Notorious B.I.G. was the focal point.

The Notorious B.I.G. left behind a legacy and it continues to this day. Surely the fans can forgive “In the Mix” and Hip Hop Vibe for deciding to honor B.I.G. through the weekly top five songs. Now, without any further hesitation, here are five of the top songs from The Notorious B.I.G., which took a lot of time to choose from and it is always all up for debate.

Rest in peace Christopher George Latore Wallace, Jr.

Listen to “In the Mix’s” top five songs from The Notorious B.I.G. below:

“Gimme The Loot”

The raw drums and the vinyl crackle hit you fully equipped with the “Bad Bad Man” scratch sample. Biggie proceeds to break down the scenario with this straight Brooklyn boom bap champion hoodie, Biggie. One of my favorites as B.I.G screams for the loot on this classic.

“Juicy”

You think Drake knows about starting from the bottom? Roll back the clock to the bottom and see Biggie in the red and black lumber jack with the hat to match. Mr. Wallace paints the picture of his rise from the streets to the plaza, complete with Puff Daddy ad-libs this is vintage Bad Boy and vintage hip hop classic.

“Kick In The Door”

Tell ’em how your gonna do it and Biggie replies by kicking the door and waving the .44 need I say more. Smalls shows his lyricism on this joint that gets heads nodding from Cairo to Beirut as Frank White breaks down the king of New York.

“Hypnotize”

Epic video – tick, Action – tick, helicopters and Diddy on the yacht – check when this dropped I was young and blown away like this is a video! Then came the delivery from B.I.G. and the deal was done certified top 5!

“Sky’s The Limit”

This is one of my all time favorite Big tracks because he showed a whole generation they could do it with this laid back record. The video was timeless, with Big portrayed by a younger version of himself holding down the crib and the honeys.

While faced with a Shakespearean dramatic, tragic, ending, The Notorious B.I.G. inspired many and without his contributions, there may be no Preemo, DJ Clue, In the Mix, or Desert Storm Radio. At the very least, things probably would have been much different.
