Many intellectuals compare life to a chess match. Several rappers have also broken the rap game, as a whole, down to a match of chess. Jay-Z often raps of playing chess, as opposed to checkers, as has 50 Cent. Chess themes are also prevalent in rhymes spit by the Wu-Tang Clan and this includes GZA, the Genius.

With 2013 being the year of Wu-Tang Clan’s twentieth anniversary, fans are hoping the Clan will reunite for their anniversary. It remains up in the air what will happen, but fans are guaranteed they will see quite a bit of Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and GZA. Recently, GZA was at the Chess Forum in New York City.

Felipe from The FADER sat down with GZA at the Chess Forum and the two had a candid conversation about the game of chess. Since he always had a fondness for chess, GZA often finds time to play the game and finds solace at the Chess Forum. While talking with Felipe, the man known as the Genius talked about his love for the sport.
