If Jay-Z was the “Mike Jordan of recordin,'” Fabolous had to be Vince Carter. Known for his mixtapes with DJ Clue, Fabolous made his mainstream debut in 2011. Fabolous immediately gained comparisons to Jay-Z. New York hip hop fans were looking for someone to fill Jay-Z’s void and Fabolous was selected.
But, rappers like Jay-Z can never be duplicated. Meanwhile, Fabolous is his own man and has his own legacy. What Jay-Z did with albums, Fabolous has done with mixtapes and the rap game has paid attention. Much like Game to the “New West” in Los Angeles, Fab is the elder statesman to this revamped New York hip hop scene and he plans to step it up.
Fabolous can also be found in Houston for the 2013 NBA All-Star Game. Fittingly, the second show is Michael Jordan’s fiftieth birthday, which he celebrated in Houston. In addition to partying with Jay-Z, Drake, and his former NBA rivals, Michael Jordan also hung out with Fabolous, who wished him a happy birthday on Twitter.
