No stranger to controversy, Lil Wayne may have taken things too far when he turned the brutal murder of Emmett Till into a punchline. Recently, Future released the remix of his single, “Karate Chop,” with Lil Wayne featured. On the song, Lil Wayne made the cruel joke, which made his family speak out.

While Lil Wayne is signed to Universal Republic by way of Cash Money Records, Future is signed to Epic Records. Because Future was the lead artist, the song is currently being promoted and distributed by Epic Records. L.A. Reid is the head of the label and he reached out to Emmett Till’s family.

Meanwhile, Epic Records, as a whole, released an official statement regarding the line made by Lil Wayne. In addition to releasing an apology statement and L.A. Reid speaking out, the song will be amended. Lil Wayne’s offensive line about Emmett Till has been removed on the new version of the song that will be released.

Read Epic Records’ statement below:

“We regret the unauthorized remix version of Future’s ‘Karate Chop,’ which was leaked online and contained hurtful lyrics,” Epic Records’ statement said. “Out of respect for the legacy of Emmett Till and his family and the support of the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr….we are going through great efforts to take down the unauthorized version.”
