Back in 2011, there were a lot of deals on the table for French Montana, who was the first artist from New York City to emerge successful in some time. Representing The Bronx, French Montana captured the attention of the rap game with his music. Everyone from Jay-Z to Diddy wanted French Montana on their roster.

In between Jay-Z and Diddy was the monster they both helped to create, Rick Ross. Most of his career, Rick Ross spent time with either of the two rapper/moguls. Rick Ross focused on the expansion of Maybach Music in 2011, completely changing the game. With 2011 closing, Ross had hopes of signing the biggest free agent in the game, but came up short.

A consolation prize for Rick Ross was being named the executive producer of French Montana’s debut album, Excuse My French. Many have mistook this as French Montana also being signed to Maybach Music. Of course an honorary member, French Montana explained the roles both Diddy and Rick Ross hold for his career and debut album.
