When Q-Tip signed to G.O.O.D. Music, many were shocked, as Consequence had just left the label. There was controversy, already, surrounding the Kanye West/Pusha T/Q-Tip situation with Consequence. Regardless, Q-Tip signed with G.O.O.D. Music in 2012, but was noticably absent from Cruel Summer.

MTV News caught up with Q-Tip and Cruel Summer was addressed. When questioned about his absence from the album, Q-Tip calmly stated “if there is a Cruel Summer, there has to be a Cruel Winter.” Work on the album was eventually confirmed by Big Sean, but it would later be said the album was not coming when Common spoke on it.

Big Sean later confirmed the album would not be coming. Meanwhile, Pusha T sat down to speak with MTV News for his Wrath of Caine mixtape. During the interview, Pusha T also spoke on Cruel Winter. Admitting he did work for Cruel Winter, Pusha T revealed the album likely would not be released.
