Reality television is here to stay, despite how most feel about the genre. But, like with everything, some reality shows work and others fail. Dating reality shows did well during the 2006 period through 2010. Since then, the “wives” format, originated by Bravo, has been successful.

VH1 has made their staple with “wives” series and other competitors have launched, including the likes of TV One and Style. TLC has made plans of getting in on the action with their “Starter Wives” series, about the first girlfriends and wives of power players. Among the women set to star in this show was Shaniqua Thompkins, the mother of 50 Cent’s son.

50 Cent has been a lot of things in the rap game, including private when it comes to his personal life. Able to keep his relationships with Ciara and Chelsea Handler private, he got into a dispute with Shaniqua Thompkins to ensure their relationship stayed out of the public eye. Thompkins has since removed herself from the TLC reality series.
