Similar to the 2008 Presidential Election, hip hop played a key role in the 2012 Presidential Election. One of President Obama’s biggest hip hop supporters, of course outside of Jay-Z, was 2 Chainz. In 2008, 2 Chainz learned his voter rights could be reinstated, despite being a felon and he used this to educate other felons.

With Georgia possibly being a 2012 swing state, 2 Chainz did all he could to help the state fall into the Obama column. While 2 Chainz’ mission came up short, President Obama did score a second term. Another victory for 2 Chainz was his efforts being recognized at the Hip Hop Inauguration Ball, where he won the “Street Soldier” award.

Educating ex-cons on their voting rights, 2 Chainz spoke to MTV News during his time in Washington, DC. Everyone was in town for the Inauguration of President Obama for his second term as president. 2 Chainz spoke to MTV News about his “Respect My Vote” campaign and much more.
