As good of a year as 2012 was for hip hop, there are many old school heads who have not accepted the changes in the game. Their reason for not accepting this new generation of old school was because Rakim was not involved. With the exception of a few old tracks, there was no new music from Rakim.

However, there was plenty of Chief Keef, who angered many with his lyrics that glorified the Chicago violence. Many, in recent days, have come to Chief Keef’s defense, given his age and the fact of him being a product of this violence. Chief Keef is currently set to begin serving a two month stint behind bars.

Rakim recently spoke to “Everywhere You Go,” a Chicago-based web series. When he talked to them, Rakim talked about Chief Keef and the Chicago violence. It turned out, his reason for leaving Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment, was because of him urging him to rap about this kind of violence.
