It was the case with most, which includes Maybach Music’s Gunplay, 2012 was simply a trial run. When 2013 comes, the real thing is set to take place. Gunplay released his acclaimed 601 & Snort mixtape and signed a solo deal with Def Jam, which included putting a new album out.

Rick Ross relaunched Maybach Music in 2011, working with Warner Bros. Records, and signed Wale and Meek Mill, among others. They immediately put albums out, but the original Maybach Music artists, those with Def Jam, waited. Gunplay took it upon himself to re-establish his buzz and landed his own deal.

Via video chat, Gunplay spoke to Hip Hop Since 1987. During the interview, Gunplay spoke on a new mixtape that he has in the works. Coming after the mixtape, something he has stated in previous interviews, is his debut album. The album will be released through Maybach Music/Def Jam.
