Coming into 2012, A$AP Rocky found himself no different than the many other New York rappers. A$AP Rocky entered 2012 building his buzz and in need of proving he deserved the $3 million deal he signed with Sony. Getting his feet wet, A$AP Rocky soon released his “Goldie” single that took the internet over.
With the exception of minor digs from up and coming Harlem rappers, A$AP Rocky has continued to build his buzz. A$AP Rocky, as was the case with French Montana, planned to release his debut album in 2012. However, A$AP Rocky wound up delaying his album until early 2013.
In January 2012, A$AP Rocky conducted his first interview of the year with Hot 97. He spoke to Angie Martinez, who introduced A$AP Rocky to Rakim. A lifelong fan of the rapper, A$AP Rocky met him for the first time since he was an infant. A$AP Rocky closed 2012 with Hot 97 and reflected on his year.
