Nothing about Wale is traditional. His music, his label affiliation, and his style is something the game has never seen before. Once his deal with Interscope Records fell through, Wale began frequenting Miami, going to King of Diamonds. Here is where Wale met Rick Ross, leading to him signing with Maybach Music.

Immediately after signing to Maybach Music, Wale relaunched his career through the compilation album, Self Made, Vol. 1. The album garnered high reviews and was considered one of the best compilation albums in a long time. Wale became a superstar and had plans of consistently releasing albums.

The initial promise of a 2012 Wale album ended up being a falsehood when Rick Ross announced Wale’s next album would come in 2013, as Meek Mill released his debut album in 2012. To make things up to fans, Wale decided to release Folarin, a mixtape/album, which is due later today. Instead of turning to the usual suspects, DJ Scream, DJ Khaled, or DJ Drama, Wale decided to take things old school with DJ Clark Kent hosting the mixape.

Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg sat down with them both and they discussed Folarin with him.
