Hip hop’s biggest restricted free agent in history has to be Mase. After the death of The Notorious B.I.G., Puff Daddy named Mase the new face of Bad Boy Records. Mase would take over the rap game from 1997 through 1998. During this period of time, Mase wound up getting into a feud with Ghostface Killah.

There were rumors of Mase being run out of the rap game by imposing figures behind the scenes. During the promotional run for his sophomore album, Mase announced his retirement. Mase launched his new career as a pastor, before coming back into the game as a “clean” rapper.

Still with Bad Boy Records, Mase released his positive album, but soon wound up spending time with 50 Cent. Reverting back to hardcore music, Mase tried to leave Bad Boy for G-Unit. Mase went back into hiatus until this year, working with Rick Ross and spoke to MTV’s “RapFix Live,” telling Sway he is now off Bad Boy Records.
