With the recent success of Meek Mill, a significant amount of attention has been brought back to the Philadelphia hip hop scene. Tone Trump and Trel Mack are among the up-and-comers who have benefited from this. Meanwhile, the veterans, including Cassidy, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, and Eve have also enjoyed minor resurgences.
Cassidy has experienced a bit of a comeback through the spike in popularity of battle rapping, along with his current war of words with Meek Mill. Insisting he would not truly go at the MMG spitter, Cassidy has had choice words for the fellow Philadelphian. Meek Mill and Cassidy have engaged in two Twitter exchanges, which were both high profile.
If anyone had to give an assessment, right now, on who the Philadelphia rap game belongs to, they would easily give it to Meek Mill. However, not everyone would agree with that statement, especially Cassidy. Appearing on Sway Calloway’s Shade 45 morning show, “Sway in the Morning,” Cassidy said he is the one who runs Philadelphia rap.
