Brooklyn Nets defeat New York Knicks, Jay-Z tweets

Becoming rich allowed Jay-Z to live out many of his dreams. By 2012, Jay-Z lived out most of his dreams with the exception of bringing the NBA to Brooklyn. In 2003, Jay-Z began making moves toward this when he purchased a minority stake in the New Jersey Nets. The plan was to convince the team to relocate into Brooklyn.

During Jay-Z’s tenure as part-owner of the Nets, the team went from being contenders to being one of the worst teams in the league. But, when the Barclays Center in Brooklyn was constructed, the Nets moved. Making this move, Jay-Z personally recruited players to join the franchise, making it clear Deron Williams was the face of the franchise.

Since 1946, the New York Knicks have been the staple of New York basketball. The team has gone through numerous ups and downs. Back in contention, the Knicks got off to a strong start before being pulled down to Earth. With the Nets back in New York City, the Knicks felt obligated to defend their home city, but came up short as the Nets won 96-89.

After the game, Jay-Z would get on his Twitter and state “The city is under new management.”
