Despite Nelly’s past on the St. Louis streets, he turned his life around and became one of the biggest hip hop artists during the early 2000s. The money Nelly made during the first five years of the 2000s, alone, left him set for life. Nelly took his money and invested in numerous businesses, among them a minority stake in the Charlotte Bobcats.

Last year, Nelly returned on the heels of his 5.0 album with his O.E.M.O. mixtape, which received mixed reviews. Proving he could still rise to the occasion, when needed, Nelly enjoyed a successful mixtape release. While Nelly capped off 2012 impressively, he has been relatively silent over the first nine months of 2012, until his tour bus was pulled over in Texas and drugs and a gun were found.

Initially, it looked as if Nelly could very well be joining Young Buck, Ja Rule, Remy Ma, and B.G. as the rappers behind bars. Instead, Nelly was soon cleared of any involvement and was back to his business and has more projects in the works. MTV News recently spoke to Nelly, who stated he was afraid his perception in the public would change due to his tour bus having illegal products on them.
